European Group of Ethics (EGE) Call

The European Commission decided to renew the mandate of the European Group of Ethics (EGE) for another five years.

'The Group is a neutral, independent, pluralist and multidisciplinary body, composed of fifteen experts appointed by the Commission for their expertise and personal qualities.

The task of the Group is to examine ethical questions arising from science and new technologies and on this basis to issue Opinions to the European Commission in connection with the preparation and implementation of Community legislation or policies.

Lund Declaration

Pär Omling, Director General of the Swedish Research Council (VR) sent out a letter on the 14 January, 2010, to thank the participants and contributors of the Lund Conference discussions on designing EU´s future policies for research and innovation. Karin Metzlaff represented EPSO at this meeting.

The final report of the Lund Conference — the Lund Declaration — provides short summaries of the various conference proceedings.

New Chief Executive and Director for Rothamsted Research Institute

14 January 2010

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the Governing Body of Rothamsted Research and the Trustees of the Lawes Agricultural Trust are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Maurice Moloney as Director and Chief Executive of Rothamsted Research. He will assume the full duties of his post from 15 April 2010.
