Outline of the workshop: The aim of the Workshop is to strengthen horticultural research in Europe by reviewing the current state of the area, and developing a white paper suggesting new directions and opportunities for horticultural research and innovation. In addition, the white paper will aim to increase public and political awareness for the economic and societal importance of horticulture and horticultural research. The workshop will make recommendations for the next steps that are necessary to support European horticultural science and innovation capacity.

The workshop will be science-based and organised by academia, but stakeholders in the horticultural production chain and representatives of users of horticultural products and services will also present their views on future challenges in the sector. Workshop sessions may include contributions on current horticultural research in several European countries as well as Africa, Asia and America, and sessions on "Green Cities - Urban Horticulture" and "Healthy nutrition, healthy lifestyle and horticulture".
