Postdoctoral position in Plant Molecular Biology

Applications for a Postdoctoral position are invited to join the research team of Debora Gasperini at the Institute of Plant Biochemistry (IPB) in Halle (Saale), Germany, a member of the Leibniz Association and foundation under public law, located on the Weinberg-Campus of the Martin Luther University (MLU) Halle-Wittenberg.

Research topic

Our group investigates how plants perceive, transmit and integrate information about their environment to prompt acclimation responses. We focus on the jasmonate (JA) pathway, which is essential to protect plants against extracellular damage provoked by wounding or herbivory. Although important aspects of JA biology are well characterized, it is still unknown how are damage signals perceived and transmitted intracellularly to initiate JA production. Intriguingly, chemical and genetic perturbations in plant cell walls often lead to upregulated JA responses. To uncover the molecular components and underlying mechanisms linking the perception of damaged cell walls to JA production, we have recently isolated mutants of novel intracellular signalling genes. The position is thus aimed at functionally characterizing one of those regulators by state-of-the art cell biology and biochemical approaches.

Who should apply

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated, and scientifically-driven candidate with strong interests in plant biology and intracellular signalling. Applicants should hold or soon receive a PhD degree in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry. Fluency in English (both written and spoken) is a prerequisite for the position. For project-related questions please contact debora.gasperini@ipb-halle.de/ Tel: 0049 (0) 345 5582 1230.

What we offer

Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale TV-L (E13). The successful candidate will work on an exciting project of compelling relevance and impact, embedded in our energetic, curious and interactive young group. The IPB hosts a vibrant and dynamic scientific environment, with outstanding research equipment and facilities. The city of Halle, with its renowned musical festivals (eg. Handel Festival) and rich cultural offer, is a beautiful place to live and is conveniently located near Berlin, Leipzig and Dresden.
