EPSO Working Group ‘Basic Plant Sciences’
Ton Bisseling from Wageningen University and chair Graduate School for plant Sciences in the Netherlands, will lead this working group to advice on critical mass support for basic plant sciences at European and national levels as a key component for a competitive and vibrant Plant Sector in Europe contributing to addressing global challenges.
Next activities: Identify in the Research Action Plan of the European Technology Platform ‘Plants for the Future’ the underlying basic research as an intrinsic component of the proposed research and innovation activities.
Leads:
T Bisseling, Wageningen University, NL
M Stitt, MPIMP Golm, DE
Working Group Members to be confirmed in due course.
Summary
Advice on critical mass support for basic plant sciences at European and national levels as a key component for a competitive and vibrant Plant Sector in Europe contributing to addressing global challenges.
-
European level: Horizon 2020, ERA-Nets
-
Raise awareness for the ERC (part of the Horizon 2020 Programme) to encourage more proposals from plant scientists in H2020
- Already started with presentations and discussion at the EPSO 2013 General Meeting, Conference and the November 2013 Newsletter page on the ERC
-
Inform on H2020 to enable successful proposals under the societal challenges
- How can your plant research contribute in this frame?
- Already started with the EPSO Briefing on H2020
-
Distil underlying research priorities from the Plant ETP Research Action Plan
- In progress
-
Strengthening ERA-Nets
- Support the ERA-CAPS towards a self-sustained ERA-NET to ensure a critical mass resource for basic plant science by the Member States at European level
-
Support the ERC
- EPSO will continue to do this as a founding member of the Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE). ISE was and still is the main advocate for the ERC from academia.
- Develop future concepts on collaborative research for FP9
- Contribute ideas for H2020 Work Programmes and assist EPSO members in finding partners for H2020 proposals with colleagues from applied research, companies and farmer organisations
- Give examples on contributions from basic research to R&I cycle (not in isolation)
-
Raise awareness for the ERC (part of the Horizon 2020 Programme) to encourage more proposals from plant scientists in H2020
- National: similar ideas to provide advice for the respective national programmes
- Lead such activities and discuss them with national and European policy makers and funders
Please contact Ton Bisseling and Karin Metzlaff to join the group and for further information.
